The holiday season is here! Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no avoiding the hustle and bustle of this time of year. I’m looking forward to cooler temperatures and time with my family, but I can relate to the stress people feel when there’s so much to do and so litle time. One of the biggest complaints I hear from clients during the November-January time period is that they are too busy with Thanksgiving preparations, holiday shopping, and family travel to stick to their usual workout program.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you can probably anticipate my first resonse: That’s OK! Spending time with family and celebrating the holidays is a priority, and it’s not a big deal if the workouts suffer a little this time of the year. But, that doesn’t mean you have to fall off the fitness wagon all together! I see the holidays as an opportunity for variety: instead of going to the gym by myself, I’ll grab my sister and go out for a chilly walk through our hometown together. We get so caught up in talking that we don’t realize how much time goes by! Or, take my dad to the part and throw a football around. The cold air is exhilarating, and it’s meaningful time for both of us.
Remember, fitness isn’t just about working up a sweat–fitness is a sense of wellness. Making your exercise social is a key aspect of this. There’s plenty of ways to stay active, even if it doesn’t look like your typical workouts.
