a little less and a little more

I’m working less lately. Cutting out a few commitments means more time to be a mommy, not to mention give some love to my oh-so neglected home.

So tomorrow our new table and chairs arrive (thanks, Mom!) and tonight for dinner we’re having spaghetti with turkey-meatballs, and roasted butternut squash & beets. This weekend I even baked chocolate-chip banana bread muffins and these yummy cupcakes.

Motherhood is constantly evolving, and my outlook on the situation changes daily, too. When I was pregnant I envisioned going back to work full-time, taking care of Victoria primarily, and still putting dinner on the table. I’ve learned that some things just have to go, and in cutting back on work, I’m discovering much more joy in life. The need to attend every conference and take on more & more clients started to feel like I was just building my resume–making my list of accomplishments longer, but to what end? Less work yields the opportunity to build stronger friendships here in Sacramento, to take my daughter on daily walks around the neighborhood, and of course, to try new cupcake recipes!

Don’t get me wrong: I’m fortunate to love what I do, and the handful of hours a week I work are even more fulfilling now, because I’m not overdoing it. I’m choosing the projects that I love the most, and kindly saying no to the rest.

p.s., If this seems like an unrelated topic, look again: intuitive fitness is about total wellness, and learning to listen to all signs & signals to make healthy choices is part of my practice. Besides, motherhood is all-encompassing, and my body (which used to run every day and lift weights to injury) now beats to the sound of my daughter’s cries. I’m evolving and listening to myself to tend to changes as I walk this road…
