June 2007
My June post is a week late! It's been a busy couple of weeks but I'm finally back into my routine.
I was home in Virginia last week, for my ten year High School reunion, and my little sister's High School graduation. I also used the time at home to begin planning my wedding! It was great to reconnect with friends and family back east. Thanks to everyone who helped make my trip memorable!
Me and my sis!

With all the hecticness of life, I've been thinking about that oh-so common problem of finding the time for exercise. In recent weeks I've cut back a bit myself to adjust to new schedule demands and travel. I have a few tips for dealing with this dilemma:
1) Don't let it bother you so much! A few days or a week off here and there isn't a big deal! If you're consistent overall with exercise, it's OK to take some extended rests from time to time. Your body needs the occassional break, and as long as you can let yourself enjoy the rest and not stress about it, it will do you some good!
2) There's always some time in there! If your extended rest becomes a little too extended, you may have to get creative with your schedule. Waking up an hour earlier than usual might sound like it's just not an option, but what about thirty minutes? An early morning brisk walk can help start your day a little more energized, and it's plenty of exercise to keep a healthy heart and bones.
3) Combine social time with exercise. Making dinner plans with your friends or going out for drinks with co-workers? See if you can convince the crew to switch locations and spend your social time being active together. Walking and talking are perfect for a catch-up session with your best friend. What about a game of tennis? Or, do you have a friend who loves to lift? Try hooking up for an hour at the gym together after work and teach each other a few tricks.
4) Put yourself first. If you're spending hours a day taking care of your family or tending to your home, remember it's also important to take some time for you! The laundry can wait, you can order out for food...especially if it means finding 45 minutes to put on your ipod and get your heart beating. Remember, you can't do everything, and sometimes it's OK to prioritize a jog around the block over a clean floor!
Hope this helps! As always, email me with questions or insights. I love hearing from you!
Happy Summer!
